It is with great pride and joy that I write this message as the principal of H.D. Woodson High School. It is truly an honor to work with such an exceptional staff. During the 2015-2016 school year, Woodson met its identified goals in every area measured by the District. Woodson met or exceeded the identified goals for math, reading, attendance, graduation, 9th grade promotion and student satisfaction. Woodson also reduced its suspension rate more than any other secondary school in the city.
H.D. Woodson’s recent success is a reflection of the hard work, commitment and dedication of the entire faculty. As we embark on a new year we want to build on our success and ensure that we do everything possible to promote the highest academic standards for the students that we serve.
In order to achieve our ambitious goals every staff member must make a full commitment to going beyond what is expected and doing what is necessary. This may involve spending extra time preparing your daily lessons, identifying each of your student’s unique academic needs and effectively using data to guide your instructional decision making. Embracing these practices will benefit our students and help every teacher become even stronger.
As you read this handbook remember that our primary goal is to educate students and to prepare them for life after high school. We have the responsibility of not only instilling the academic but in some cases the social skills that our students will need to survive and prosper in an increasingly competitive global market.
Again I’m truly honored to lead H.D. Woodson High School and I’m sure that we will have another terrific year.
Dr. Darrin Slade
